University students protesting the ASUU strike stopped the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway under the auspices of the South-West zone of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
On Tuesday, September 13, the students gathered at the Sagamu interchange as early as 9am.
They stopped the highway on both sides, stopping traffic from entering and leaving Lagos.
During the protest, many travelers were stuck, and business operations were halted.

The walkout, now in its seventh month, was called upon to stop right away by the students.
To allow the teachers on strike to return to class, they pleaded with the Nigerian government to grant their requests.
"We have started a major action today on the ASUU Strike. There is no point arguing about who is at fault or what should be done. It is very clear that the rulers underfund education and the Buhari government is failing in its promises to revamp education," says a statement from the students' movement signed by PRO Giwa Yisa and Zone D Coordinator Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji.
"As things stand, there are no world-class higher education institutions in Nigeria, yet our so-called public employees travel the globe and spend billions on sending their children to study overseas.
We are the ones who can save ourselves since we are significant educational stakeholders. We have kept tabs on students' desires as they go from university to campus via their social media accounts and public writings.
"Students across Nigeria support ASUU because our professors experience the same challenges and negative events as we do.
"The staff housing is just as awful as the dorms for the students.
"A professor's laboratory in South Africa is significantly more furnished than any university's lab in Nigeria.
"We, the youth, do not know where we are coming from, let alone where we are going, because history has been slain and undermined, but we will no longer weep.
"The new NANS leadership is here to work with students to accomplish the goals and objectives we have established. The student movement, in our opinion, has a place in history. It is a duty that we promise to carry out. Students from Nigeria won't ever be let down by us!
"On this tack, we declare: We Stand with ASUU. We call on ASUU leadership to convene as soon as feasible for a meeting to discuss solidarity measures and map out the struggles' upcoming stages.
"We ask for the correct funding of the educational sector in contrast to what has been possible over the previous seven years and we vote no confidence in both the Labour and Education Ministers.
"We demand that the Buhari administration pay all pending arrears and the lecturers' salaries. The "No Work, No Pay" policy is fascist, and as such, it is unacceptable to the millions of students in Nigeria. By making this declaration, we promise to stop pleading and to mobilize all students to shut down the nation (without excepting the White House). No movement, no education.
